Run the Gauntlet

Glenn & Sue Kraft are planning a Z driving excursion Saturday, June 20, 2020 from 9 AM to 3 PM to Run the Gauntlet.

Glenn says,

Now that COVID restrictions have been loosened a bit, we'd like to get out on the road in our Zs with our fellow Z enthusiasts. We're trying to take measures to keep everyone safe, but totally understand many are still reluctant to participate in group activities. The link below is a map of the Gauntlet beginning and ending at Copperhead Lodge. We're doing it slightly differently, beginning and ending outside of Dahlonega, running it counterclockwise.

Run the Gauntlet - Redux

Glenn & Sue Kraft are planning another Z drive Saturday, August 1, 2020 from 9 AM to 4 PM to Run the Gauntlet again in the opposite direction.

Glenn says,

Looking to do the essentially the same route that we ran in June, but this time run the Gauntlet clockwise.

The link below is a map of the Gauntlet beginning and ending at Copperhead Lodge.

I'll provide Garmin GPX files once I have created them.

The plan is to meet in the parking lot at Walmart in Dahlonega, so we have a large area to join up, and have readily accessible restrooms. If we leave there at 9:00am, we can arrive at our lunch destination around 11:00am, thus beating the crowds and getting good parking. The place we chose was the Sand Bar and Grill in Hiawassee. We chose them in part due to Covid concerns, as they have a very large tent out front, where the tables are about 8 feet apart, as well as having a hand-washing station outside. They also have a nice view of the marina. See photos on Discussion tab.

After lunch (between 12:30-1:00), we'll make about a 5-minute run to get a group photo, and then back onto the road. We should then make it back to Dahlonega between 2:30 and 3:00. Just outside of Dahlonega, there are several wineries, so we thought we'd end the drive at one of them, where people could join us for a tasting, or call it a day.

In keeping with local guidelines, we do ask that people maintain social distancing and other safety precautions. Please, think of your fellow drivers.

Standard disclaimer: all participants will be required to sign a waiver; please be ready to start the drive with a full tank and an empty bladder. As noted on the map, there are some bathrooms on the route, but not a great deal of them.

If you are interested, please email Glenn for details.

Roswell Motoring Festival

Come out and join us as attendees of this inaugural car show event featuring "150 rarely seen Motorcars, Motorcycles and more". I don't know a lot about the event since they declined my offer to help as a car club but there should be vendors, artists and food in the area. If nothing else, it will give us an opportunity to get out in our Zs.

I was not able to secure a parking corral for us, but if we get there early enough, we might be able to park together. I plan to get there at 9:30 AM.

See https://www.atlmotoringfest.org/ for more details about the event.

Let me know if you plan to be there. It should be fun if the weather permits. Bring your own chair, mask, and sunscreen and prepare to socially distance as much as possible.
